HTMX Media Thumb Preview

Viewing original images in the Drupal media library normally requires multiple clicks and a new browser tab. This module adds a full-screen modal preview that opens when you click any thumbnail, showing the uncropped original-size image instantly.

HTMX Media Thumb Preview solves a small but persistent friction point in the Drupal Media Library workflow. To view the full-resolution original of any image, editors currently have to click the edit icon, then click the image link, which opens a new browser tab. For image-heavy sites this adds up to real time lost.

The module intercepts thumbnail clicks in the media library and shows a full-screen modal dialog containing the uncropped, original-size image. The modal can be dismissed with a single click anywhere outside it or by pressing Escape. No page reload is required.

The implementation uses HTMX for the modal interaction, keeping the JavaScript footprint minimal and avoiding the need for a full frontend framework. The module relies on Drupal core's media module with no additional dependencies.

Developed and initially sponsored by Agaric, the module is early-stage and not yet covered by Drupal's security advisory policy, but it addresses a genuine usability gap that content editors encounter daily.
